Upshur County Youth Camp

About Us

From its modest opening in 1942, Upshur County's Youth Camp at Selbyville has grown into an attractive, well-equipped recreational area which serves Upshur Countains as well as a multitude of diverse groups from throughout West Virginia.

Funded by the Upshur County Commission and operated by its own administrative board and director, the 76- acre camp on the Buckhannon River at the southern border of Upshur County is open to all individuals and groups, regardless of race, color, creed, or origin.

Once you cross the river and enter the campgrounds, the hustle of everyday living fades into a relaxed, picturesque scene. Bordered by woodland and the Buckhannon River, the camp is highlighted by a green valley which has been developed to suit a wide variety of activities.

Traditionally, the camp is opened early in June to host all types of youth and adult groups, including 4-H, clubs, bands, religious encampments, etc., through early fall. In addition, the swimming pool, picnic facilities, and open recreational areas are used regularly for reunions and similar outings. Some of the cabins as well as the dining hall are equipped for late fall and winter retreats. The camp's 9 dormitory- type residence halls and Anderson Dining Hall can adequately accommodate groups as large as 250 persons. Ample parking is conveniently located.
